Pet Bereavement Counselors:
China

There are literally hundreds of people who are now counseling in pet bereavement, and it is not possible for the APLB to register them all. Some hesitate to be listed in any directory, others are first discovering the benefits of this wonderful service, and many more are still unknown to us. We welcome all new applicants to contact us directly by mail or online at aplb@aplb.org. This listing is arranged according to geographical location. We are pleased that every counselor registered here is a member of the APLB.

As the founder of the Institute of Scientific Animal Communication, I have provided many consultation to clients with their animals in critical stages or have passed away. With the completion of the APLB’s Pet Bereavement Counselor training course, my consultation service would help you to go over this difficult stage and eventually move on with a healed heart.

Dated back to my primary school days which I started keeping fishes, insects, reptiles, birds and mammals etc as pet, my bonding with animals germinated. When I grew up, I learned that animals should be in their natural habitat instead of being kept as pets. Hence, I only keep rescued animals (which are not suitable to release back to their original habitats) as my companions now. To equip myself to be in harmony with the nature, I studied Applied Biology then obtained my first Master degree in Environmental Studies and Public Health. As I am enthusiastic in promoting love of our nature and animals, I serve as a lecturer at universities in Hong Kong.

Further developing myself into a helping professional not only to the animals, my second master’s degree is in the field of Counselling. My strength is Animal Assisted Counselling. I am happy that I have the chance to serve humans with therapy animals as my partners. I am the founder of the "Hong Kong Institute of Animal Assisted Intervention (HKIAAI)", which provides free services to those needed, as well as the promotion of Animal Welfare and a harmonious nature. I am confident that APLB’s Pet Bereavement Counselor training course equipped me further to soothe broken hearts.

I earned a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Hong Kong. As a registered social worker since 2000, I have practiced counseling service in NGOs and am now teaching social work students in a university.

Blessed by my own loving companion animal, and experienced by the loss of beloved pets among my close friends, my wife and I have recently established an organization “Animal Power” in Hong Kong, where we serve as founder and director. Here, pet bereavement and empowerment support is provided to grieving pet owners, by means of pet loss support groups, pet memorial service with Christianity rituals, workshops and animal-related volunteering. I have enhanced my pet bereavement counseling with the advanced training provided by the pet loss counselor seminars of the APLB, and have received their acclaimed Certificate of Counseling.

I am a registered social worker in Hong Kong, and for over ten years have been providing individual and group counseling for families and children, as well as supervising family social workers. I am one of the founders of ‘Animal Power’ which not only provides pet loss bereavement counseling to pet owners, but also is concerned with human-animal relationship and animal rights in Hong Kong Society. Aside from adopting the cognitive approach in the pet loss support group, other educational and empowerment programs are offered to support pet bereavers, to work through the difficult time during the mourning process. I have been awarded the highly acclaimed APLB Certificate of Counselor Training.
