As a former emergency veterinarian for almost a decade, I witnessed firsthand the grief and heartache pet-owners experienced when their pets died or needed euthanasia. I, too, own pets, and know the pain associated with losing a furry family member. After suffering a stroke in 2009, and unable to resume my duties as an ER vet, I decided to refocus my career, in part, to helping pet owners overcome their special kind of grief — which is often trivialized by society. In 2012 I became certified with APLB as a Pet Loss and Bereavement counselor.

I counsel individuals and families, and also lead pet loss support groups at VSCOT. My counselor training and veterinary medical background, and keen understanding of the human-animal bond, provide me with a unique advantage. I can help you process your individual feelings of grief, and regain a functional life, while honoring the memory of your pet. My counseling approach is attentive, non-judgmental and compassionate.
